Recalls vs CSPs

When Ford announces a recall, it means that there is a potential issue with safety, compliance, or emissions. Safety and safety compliance recalls have no expiration date; the same is usually true of emissions or compliance recalls.

In addition to recalls, you may be notified of a CSP, which stands for Customer Satisfaction Program. A CSP is either an extension of an existing warranty or an upgrade to a certain component in your vehicle. Both recalls and CSPs are VIN-specific programs; however, unlike recalls, CSPs are limited by time and mileage.

How Will I Know if My Vehicle Needs Recall Service?

Ford will send a notification letter to owners of vehicles that have been named in a recall. In addition, Ford puts together a recall database going back decades. Enter your VIN, and you can search this database to see if your vehicle has any open recalls. If the announced recall is recent, your VIN may not have had a chance to be added to the database yet. In addition, since Ford uses VIN, sequence of manufacturing, build date, and other factors to determine recalls, there's a chance that your vehicle may not be affected.
